Year 2-3 Wheels

What a great way to finish a week of learning! The year 2-3 team were last out on to the wheels course but it was worth the wait. There were so many scooters but the riders were patient and sensible. They had a chance to speed up with some slalom races at the end. All the bike riders tried every obstacle and our two roller bladers showed us their skills. Thanks House Captains and Diane R, we had FUN!

The rain came down and all of the New Entrant and Year 1 children spent lunchtime playing inside. They all ate their lunch together while watching a cool alphabet story on the big screen!

On Wednesday afternoons the year 2-3 team do a rotation of drama, music and PE. This week we did Little MIss Muffet. Look at our spider webs and our expressions when we are frightened!

As you can see, there are some future actors and actresses in the Year 2-3 team!

Room 1, 2 and 3 river walk.

The teachers said, "Yes - we're going, it's not going to rain!"
So off we went on our walk to the river.
We noticed lots of stormwater manholes and the drains. We imagined the pipes going under the ground, taking the rainwater down to the Waikato River.
We stopped at the top of the steps because we found this sign. We have heard the word "Matakanohi" in our school Hotumauea song and now we have seen it on a sign! Now down all the steps...

We were very careful walking down the steps because there were lots of them.
Can you see our Stormwater Drain Ninja Turtle name tags?

At the bottom of the steps we found another sign!
This pipe went under the path and into the river.
The research group took photos and tested the water quality.
All the children had a bag and plastic glove to collect rubbish on the way back to school.
Great work Year 2/3 team. The teachers were proud of how sensible you were on our trip.
A big thanks to all the wonderful parent help who came to help the children with their
learning about stormwater and keeping the Waikato River clean.

Waikato River Walk

The Year 2/3 team (Rooms 1, 2 and 3) have been learning about litter at school, stormwater drains and the Waikato River.  What have these got in common? We are going for a walk down to the Waikato River to find out!
